Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Polishing Silver

Even though it needs polishing and attention, we do love our silver. We always pour coffee from the silver coffeepot whenever we have company. The smaller after dinner pot is used whenever we use the small demi tasse cups for after dinner coffee.

It is a chore to polish silver but I have always enjoyed household chores which includes polishing the silver and the copper.
My favorite silver polish is by Seeds, a British firm that I used to buy at Restoration Hardware. They still sell it but it is under their own label. In my opinion it is the best!
From the silver tea and coffee services to the silver trays which I adore, there is a lot of silver at Linderhof. A cold fall afternoon, with carols playing, is a good time to make sure that the silver is bright and shiny for holiday entertaining.

Martha ....

Glad that you like polishing silver, I have a ton of it that inherited from my family.

I'm still trying to finish it by polishing a few items at a time.
Maybe I should send some to you for polishing. :-)

Martha, someday I'll tell you about my silver (you have to know me better) but till then polish away and enjoy it all. Linderhof is so beautiful that polished silver is almost like gilding a lily. I'd love to see your home decked out for the holidays. Could you post some pictures?

There is something so fundamental right about polishing silver. Thanks for the reminder of RH's polish. I used to use it and have forgotten about it the past several years. Time to go back to the mall

And it does give one such a sense of accomplishment to see it all lined up and sparkling, doesn't it??
