Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

The magic of lamplight

I love Linderhof at night when the lamps are lit and the soft glow of low watt bulbs make pockets of light in a room creating a soft warm glow.

Our dining room sideboard -- just before a dinner party. The sconces light up the sideboard but unfortunately, don't light up perhaps my favorite piece of art at Linderhof. A wonderful Chinese woodblock on fabric that husband Jim bought in Tai Wan when he was only 19 years old. A class act even then!
The sideboard is more for "tablescape" than useful purpose mostly. Although sometimes, things will be put away so that the coffee service or after dinner drink service will be close at hand.
The silver tea set is the same age as Linderhof, two sugar scoops hold my collection of wee spoons for coffee, the platter in back is Spode, found at an outlet store for a steal of a price.

I love the magic that lamplight creates at night. Not only in the dining room but throughout the house. I always say that Linderhof truly glows at night! And to prove it, the same sideboard, taken the same night -- but with the flash -- poof the magic is gone!

I like the 'magic' of lamplight! It's flattering to a room and to a lady!

Hi Martha-
The pictures are lovely! I love dim lighting...it really sets the mood. I have dimmers on my chandeliers and love to turn them low to set a mood. I also love candlelight and think eveyone looks beautiful in it! You have such an amazing collection of things. Thanks for sharing!
