Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

The red bowls

These are wee red lion's head bowls. Each one holds about 1/3 of a cup. I first saw them on a post made by SusanQ at Savoring Time in the Kitchen. She served chocolate pot de creme in them and I thought they were adorable.

A search entailed and I found them at Sur La Table -- and they were ON SALE!!!!

They came in sets of 4 and I ordered 3 sets so that I could have 12 of these adorable bowls.

They will be perfect for SusanQ's chocolate pot de creme, for my own chocolate pot de creme, or any type of wee desserts that you serve individually. Savories as well could be served from these darlings -- rice casseroles, vegetable purees, or macaroni and cheese. And they would be great for soup for a ladies luncheon. Sauces, too, could be served from them. Remolade for shrimp or crab, ketchup for homemade French fries. The possibilities are endless.
The color red will be perfect for Valentine's (for which SusanQ used hers) as well as Christmas (they will look good with the Christmas Royal Doulton Tartan). In fact they will even go well with our blue and white dinnerware. And if you collect Fiesta -- they seem like the perfect color to go with those dishes!
They are tiny -- about the size of an orange. But good things always come in small packages and these lion's head bowls prove that.

Hi Martha-
Did I hear chocolate pots de creme?
I'll be right over! They are so cute, I couldn't appreciate their size until I saw the picture in your hand. Another thing that you could bake in them is The Pioneer Woman's Baked Fudge....you won't be sorry. I made it extra trouble by using Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder in the recipe instead of regular unleaded. Hurry, get to the store before dark. You'll have all the other ingredients on hand and your hubby will love you even more!

How cute they are, and you are right, they will add a pretty spot of color to almost any table setting! I don't know if I have enough storage space for ANYTHING else in my china pantry, but these look small enough, I might fit some in. laurie

I'm so glad you found them. You got a much better price than I did!
