Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

My New Chair

Welcome to Met Monday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. It is always fun to see everyone's transformations. At Linderhof, alas, transformations are far and few between for we've been here for 21 years and there isn't much to transform.

However . . . . I did have a corner of the master bedroom that I was unhappy with. A cabinet held my Royal Doultons and there is a plant in the window but it lacked . . .
something!

And then Friday at a consignment furniture store in the city, I found a chair with a wee footstool.

I must tell you that I have three fetishes -- chairs, lamps and pictures. Like orphans, I'm always dragging a lone chair, another lamp or a picture that I think will be perfect -- someplace.

I have been trying to be good about my fetishes and I haven't brought home any new chairs or pictures in forever. Although I've not been real good about lamps -- but we all can't be perfect!

So trying to be good, I passed on the chair.

And the more I thought about it, the more perfect I thought it would be for the bland corner in the master bedroom.

And so this morning at breakfast, I played my "mother's day" trump card and off to the city we went -- to get that chair!
In place, it is PERFECT!!!! It's has age (although I don't know how much), it's upholstered in needlepoint which is in good condition. The tag said it was French but upon loading it, the bottom says "made in Belgium".

In case you didn't notice, Oliver, the Corgi decided to be "Vanna White" and pose with the chair.
But perhaps a dog should be modest after all -- if I don't look at you, you won't know I'm there!

I think the chair looks far better than even I thought it would. It's a great piece and I do love it -- and I think it just makes that corner!

I'm impressed. A beautiful piece of furniture that traveled to the middle of our country and you now own it. Isn't the mobility of our world amazing. Who needs French brocante's? :)

Martha,

Love your new chair. I can't tell you how often I have seen something, gone back to get it and it was gone. I'm glad you got your chair. And Ollie is adorable.

The chair is perfect for the corner.
We share a chair fetish - mine is for wing chairs, in particular. Each of the children was coerced into taking at least one wing chair on moving out....it was getting a bit crowded!
Lovely post for Mothers' Day.

A big part of my chair fetish is for wing chairs also -- at one time I had 8 of them -- and they were 4 pairs. I have whittled it down to only 3 and each are singles (although two are upholstered in the same fabric) -- I'm much happier!

Hey Martha, about the weather...wind was quite scary, where I'm orginally from on the east coast, it actually looked like a hurricane to me!
Thanks for asking, everything except a portion of our privacy fence survived. :)

Oh what a unique and wonderful chair you have there. And I do love it in this corner. Sweet doggie too!

Nice chair and the perfect spot for it. I like to collect tea pots so I tend to drag those home. I have so many that I have to rotate them. I think a chair fetish is easier:)

Lovely chair! It's similar to one I found on Craigslist last year -- mine is in blue embroidery, but like yours it's got enough age on it to be "just right," and not too much age to make it a project!

Your chair looks perfect in that corner. (Love the mirrored door, by the way -- very nice!)

And Oliver? I think he's doing his best FOOTSTOOL imitation!
