Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

We're Now at Point C

It's time for Met Monday hosted by Susan at Between Naps On the Porch . . . It's always fun to participate but because we've lived at Linderhof for 21 years there isn't much to Morph anymore.

However, in the garden, we've had a work in progress with our pond just outside our breakfast room.

This is Point B -- the pond is dug and the liner put in -- We can tell that it's going to be great -- when the cat fountain gets put back in and plantings are put around the fountain.

And so after much rain and a whole week that the pond looked like it does above, we finally have cat fountain in pond, water plants in pond, and fish in pond . . .
And landscaping AROUND the pond -- we are now at Point C!

Old fashioned orange daylilies are on the left side of the pond, liarope edges the rest of the pond, there are some grasses (which you can't see) and some salvia for color.
The cat is spewing water while goldfish swim under the cat and their favorite place is around the cat. We have some water lilies, a spiky plant and some others which we call floaters and for the life of me I can't remember what they are.
I am very happy with Point C. I feed the fish on my way out to get the morning paper. Husband Jim puts bird food on the ledge and the birds love it, and corgi Ollie will get up on the ledge for a drink!
We've come a long way from Point A! Where even the cat was so embarassed by this triangle that he's turned his back on the space!

Your pond is wonderful. Just big enough to make a statement but not too big overtake the space.

That is a gorgeous pond with a touch of whimsy - the spewing cat! I think you need a bench now, because I'd want to sit there for a while with a good book! Linda

The patio is on the other side of the pond so there is a good place to sit and relax.

And actually, I should take a pic of it now filled with blocks -- and then when empty and swept can be another met Monday!

Oh this pond is just gorgeous, I have never seen a cat fountain like that, just such a great look.
Thank you for the award, sorry I have not posted it yet. I received 2 within a day and I have been so busy. I was hoping to understand linking alittle better, but that is not happening very quickly :)Hope to post it soon.
Thanks again.

I love it! My hubby has been contemplating making a little pond like that but just hasn't gotten around to it. I'll have to show him yours.

If I didn't know how long these projects take, I'd think you had a magic wand, Martha. The pond is beautiful and the cat...well, the cat is perfect.

Julie -- I've never been a "water feature" person but I do love the sound of a fountain and this seemed like a perfect solution to several problems. Now besides the fish, I have one zinc dove on the ledge and another below -- and beside on the ledge. So we have cat, fish AND bird!

I love the trickling of water. Alas my poor pond came down this summer after a midnight raid by the raccoons. They ate the fish, tore up the plants and left the pump running all night until it died. I hope you have better luck with yours.
Do you buy koi $$$ or just use the pet shop gold fish?

I adore that kitty fountain. Where did you get it? I've never seen anything like it.
We uncovered our fountain, but didn't fill it. Now it's filling with rain water. At this rate it will probably be filled in a couple days.

I wanted to let you know I posted my M-day gift ideas. I think you might enjoy

Sweet wishes,
Sara
