Husband Jim left early Monday morning -- with breakfast on the road. I was alone and what did I do . . .

Have a leisurely breakfast for one!

My company -- a book on gardening,
Garden Notebook, by Constance Spry. My latest Breakfast Room book -- one that I peruse while I enjoy a glass of icy tea or a cup of hot tea. It doesn't have a beginning or an end -- it's arranged month by month so you can pick up and read whatever you want whenever you want. It was the perfect companion this Monday morning.

Just because I was alone didn't mean that I needed to "skimp" on breakfast -- a bowl of homemade granola with a sprinkle of blueberries, some muffins and a nice plate of fresh cherries. And a pot of coffee, of course. And I treated myself to the silver one!

I make a couple of batches of granola and store them in one of my sweetie jars. It's good by the bowlful or sprinkled on yogurt.

The last of the cherries. Alas, I'm afraid that they are gone until next year. I must admit that I ate them all -- one by one and savoring each bite.
It was Monday and although I was not "blue" -- I did use all of my blue dishes. I feel that all blues go together. And for a bit more blue -- the tabletopper was a French jacquard napkin from Williams Sonoma.

Oh, I only wish I had been there. Look at how beautifully delicious those berries look, Martha! Gorgeous! Oooo, guess what!?!?! I am going to try to cook boeuf bourguignon tomorrow night, thanks to the inspiring scenes of Julie and julia. I'm so not a cook, so wish me luck! :)
Hi Martha,
Your blues are beautiful, your meal looks delightful, and your silver coffee pot is truly stunning! Thanks for sharing your lovely breakfast for one with us!
Wow I just love those cherries,,we buy them when they come in season and surely miss them until the next year! It does make them so much better when you have to wait for them. I love your blue and white dishes...I collect them too! Very pretty and delicious post. Miss Bloomers
Looks like you can feed two for breakfast....I'm coming over, LOL !

Beautiful table...yes, blue and white dishes do go very well together!
There is nothing like a lisurely breakfast to start the day, I love my time in the morning to gather my thoughts for the day. Everything looks great.
Happy Thursday

This is a beautiful table for one, Martha! The granola and blueberries look delish and those are my favorite kind of cherries!
Looks delicious! Homemade granola sounds wonderful. You'll have to share the recipe. I know it's fairly easy, just haven't do it. You are a constant source of inspiration!
Hugs, Nancy
Such a delightful mixture of blues on your table - perfect for your blueberry cereal. I would be sad to see the end of those cherries too!
I think it's a great idea to treat ourselves to beauty even if we are the only one at the table. It all is so pretty. Your food look equally as pretty! Thanks very much for stopping by to leave a nice message. Donna
I could have easily shared that breakfast with you. Homemade granola...any special recipe?
I would have eaten all the cherries too:) I usually eat breakfast standing up on the run and have been known to eat cold pizza in one hand with my keys in the other with one foot out my door. I don't remember the last time I had time to sit and eat breakfast? Your breakfast looks so calming.

Very pretty. While I make my own granola, too, it isn't consumed in such an elegant manner. I should try it your way!
Lovely table for one, and a blessing we can enjoy the morning without rushing like so many must! I don't think I could ever do that again..so many years of it..
I had the Ranier cherries for the first time this year..I loved them and will look fwd to them again next year!
What a BEAUTIFUL breakfast for one!... and so healthy!!! :)
Such a wonderful looking breakfast Martha. I too am from Kansas, so howdy neighbor!
Love your china and homemade granola?! Yummy, right up my alley. Great post.
Now you know how to treat a girl right :-). Very nicely done, Martha.
Good for you --pampering yourself! You deserve this beautiful table! I see you like to read as you eat too--I always do when I am alone! I eat granola in fatfree vanilla yogurt almost every morning--would love to have your recipe! I'm sure you missed him but I hope you enjoyed your quiet time without Jim.
While looking at your pictures it made me think how I should try and be more thoughtful on my breakfast choices. Yours looked so good and healthy! Love the blue plates used in your tablescape. Hugs! Thanks for stopping by!!
Homemade granola and fruit! Now that's my kind of breakfast. A feast, even when alone. (Actually, I rather like to eat alone.) I'm one for the blue dishes, certainly. And I always, always love anything from Williams-Sonoma. And a good book at the same time. What a treat!

This is very pretty and looks delicious!
I also have a blue TT this week!
Katherine
Good for you! I love to 'treat' myself to breakfast once in awhile too! I usually like to eat a bowl of cold cereal, and I'll put it into one of my grandmother's vintage cups (just the right size!), and I'll get out one of my 'company' coffee cups, set a placemat, cloth napkin, pick a pretty spot either inside or out on the deck and just indulge myself. It's a nice way to start the day!
You look like you had a beautiful start to your day! I loved everything about it and especially loved the pretty blue dishes!
All the best,
Eileen
I had breakfast for one lined up for me Friday morning. Instead I baked some Scandanavian Pastries. Fresh from the oven, I put them in loose tents of foil...dropped one off at my mother's...took two to the library for my BF and me to share. She had hers eaten before I was half-finished. ;o) We didn't have the nice setting that you have...so no pictures to show.
I did take a photo of my napkins...on my blog. Not vintage like yours, but I like them...
I always look for your tablescapes! They seem like you could just step into the picture. Your house and garden are beautiful. Thanks for the lovely blue and white table with the silver pot. From Pam from Texas, loved the tablescape.
Oh Martha, what a lovely way to enjoy your breakfast. That table and the food look so inviting. laurie
