Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

A Fall Dinner Party in the Garden

The best thing about fall on the prairie is that we once again can enjoy the outdoors -- summer is usually too hot but in the spring and fall . . . .

Saturday night we had 12 over for dinner before the show at the Liberty. A casual affair of brats, 3 salads, and that wonderful Oma's Apple Cake for dessert. Mostly beer but some wine was served as well.

The tablecloths were a day before garage sale find -- old Williams Sonoma ones -- and not three but six! Different sizes but it is nice to have a patio party and have ALL the tablecloths match!
If it's a party at Linderhof, it's blue and white! The plates look good on the sage green print tablecloths. White Hotel napkins (my everyday napkins actually) for each place. Outside, the silver napkin rings ARE NOT used!
Glass canning jars filled with garden basil and a yellow annual that I've forgotten the name of. And because it was fall -- pumpkins as well. Husband Jim felt the new tablecloths made the garden feel like fall -- much more so than the summer yellow and blue ones! I agree!
We're twelve at two tables for four -- but it's okay to squeeze in -- especially for a casual patio party!
The centerpieces kept small but fresh. The yellow flowers were bought three years ago and they reseed themselves -- they're a great annual but a mystery annual because I've forgotten their name!

We love to entertain both inside and outside and with the beautiful fall weather, garden parties are perfect.

Oh, I can't wait for it to cool off a little more and then we can eat outside. This looks lovely. I'm sure everyone had a great time. Hugs, Marty

Simple is often the best. Too cold here to eat outside now besides that it is dark here already.

Isn't it wonderful to eat outdoors? That looks very inviting! Those tablecloths were a great find.
Could those yellow flowers be calendulums?(sp?) They have a familiar look, and calis. reseed like crazy...
I'd love it if you'd come by for a visit sometime, although I'm not posting a traditional tablescape this week I have something fun to show, and I'm having my first ever giveaway!

The flowers are Melampodium -- a prairie star flower -- I highly recommend them.

Great find on those multiple tablecloths! I know I have been buying "bunches" of tablecloths in the same colour lately as I really like the look when you have multiple tables to decorate. Your patio party looks great!

How lovely to be able to dine outdoors and enjoy warm Fall temperatures. It's too cool now in the evenings here in Normandy but still warm in the midday sunshine.
Happy TT.

The heat has let up, so I'm finally getting to enjoy my new deck as well. Blue and white is one of my very favorites, and what better for a dinner party than such tranquil colors with those tablecloths? Beautiful tablescapes!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on the New Orleans pictures. We had a lovely afternoon, strolling and looking at the beautiful old building. So glad to see the city come back from the brink! Blessings.
