Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

A Pre Theatre Dinner

We have season tickets to the Liberty Theatre and our ritual has been to invite our tablemates (they are tables for 4 -- friends have the other two seats) and others (to make a dinner table for eight) to a before the show dinner.

An easy dinner for even with a six o'clock dinner time, there is no time to linger. A casual dinner as well and so the dining room table is bare and under the plates are my woven chargers.

Red carnations were on sale at the flower shop and so was the basis for my color scheme.
Red napkins (in my silver napkin rings), the red carnations in a blue and white jar, and, of course, my blue and white plates.

The salad is preset -- baby lettuces, Farmer's market tomatoes in a balsamic vinaigrette. Oil and vinegar and herbs for the homemade Artisan loaf at each end of the table.
As is my custom, menus featuring the Scintas (the show at the Liberty that night) as well as placards for each place.
A simple table but nice enough for a dinner party. Two birds around the flowers add a bit of color and interest to the jar of red carnations.

Please join Susan at Between Naps on the Porch to see the other fascinating tablescapes this Thursday.

This was to be my post for September 3 Tablescape Thursday but alas, before I could get home, the computer came down with the terminal virus! But I so wanted to share this table with you.

Wonderfully creative idea to print the menu on something that reflects the play being featured. I like your idea of gathering with friends prior to the show. I'd like to plan something like that so thank you for sharing the details.

The carnations are very pretty with your blue and white plates. What a nice tradition you've established for your theatre nights. We also have season's tickets, but because we live out of town have developed a tradition of meeting for dinner at a pub near the theatre.

Sorry your computer has problems, but so happy you shared this table with all of us now. I'm a bit late getting to all the tablescapes, but this is one event I don't like to let get past me. Your table looks just perfect! I always love red, white, and blue. I have the Spode Blue Room collection and enjoy using it with red on occasion. Life has been coming at me fast so I didn't get a table done for this week. Hope to be back next week with something to share. ~ Sarah
