Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

The September Herb Garden

I like the lushness of the September herb garden. Some of the herbs have been harvested but with our cooler summer and plenty of rain, they have grown in leaps and bounds again. And this year we may get a second harvest.

Since there is always "thyme" in the herb garden, a nice planting surrounds the armillary sundial.
And a favorite place to sit in the garden is under the pergola. The wisteria is growing nicely up the columns and soon will reach the top to create a shady nook for a warm sunny day.

Soon a pot or two of mums will be under the pergola as well as a pumpkin or two. A bit of fall in the garden.

Soon, too, the tender herbs will be brought in to the breakfast room to winter over -- the bay and the lemon verbena.

I enjoy the spring garden but I think my favorite month for the herb garden is September.

Please join Susan at A Southern Daydreamer and see what others are doing this Outdoor Wednesday.

I've been feeling the approach of fall too. We've had a wonderful summer, but I love the approach of fall, and have to smile at your post, because I've also written about this time between seasons.

I love your herb garden. We enjoy ours as well. I'm having a hard time letting go of summer and I haven't bought mums or pumpkins yet. Sooner or later.......I will.

I didn't pick up a lemon verbena plant this year. I should have. I love the aroma! I think that is probably my very favorite of the herbs.
