Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Another Fall Dinner

We hosted another dinner last Saturday night. Similar to our week before party -- with the same centerpiece, candlesticks (and votives) and tablesetting.
Gold napkins echo the gold tablecloth (although of different fabric) and the blue and white plates look good against the gold.
We use our blue and white Spode plates often -- they're pretty plus they can go into the dishwasher -- an option not available with the china. And after dinner when we're rushing out of the house to attend the show at the Liberty Theatre . . . we don't have time for dishes.

The knife is under the menu -- just so you know that a lone fork is not a proper tablesetting!
The big blue and white bowl is a favorite of mine . . . and looks good filled with the pumpkins, gourds and bittersweet of fall.
The dining room -- awaiting our guests -- everything is ready . . . we're in the living room with the first glass of wine as we await the ring of the doorbell.

A Tale of Two Parties . . .

If this tablesetting looks familiar . . .

It is because it is!!!! This was the week before -- a darker cloth and the leaf dishes are the only differences.

I'm fonder of the tablescape with the dark green cloth -- not just because of the leaf dishes but because it looks richer.

Which is your favorite? The green cloth or the gold cloth?

It's Thursday -- perhaps my favorite day of the week for it's time for Tablescape Thursday with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Visit her and see what other great tablescapes there are this week.

Lovely. I do prefer the dark green cloth because it makes everything richer looking. What I'd give to be a guest at Linderhof for a meal. You are truly a gifted cook and hostess.

They both look beautiful, but the center piece is the show stopper. Just lovely with the bittersweet weaving through it.

I think both tablecloths have their charm - I like the way changing something as simple as the cloth can change the look of a tablesetting. No need to have tons of different dishes. Fall tables are always so welcoming.

Wow, Just changing the tablecloth made it look entirely different. Though, both tables are elegant, I think the gold cloth goes really well with the blue and white china.

Martha, I am catching up after a couple of weeks on vacation. Your posts are just lovely... brimming with photos so beautiful that they could easily have been included in a Victoria magazine spread. I love your blue and white china. My mother has a lot of blue and white pieces in her home, and I've always thought them so lovely and versatile. I will have to try your pesto recipe, too. I had a wonderful pasta/pesto dish on vacation and thought I should get a good recipe for it... they voila! I pop over here and you have one waiting for me.

Blessings,
Christi

I love the bowl with all the fall vegetables. It is an attractive change from a fruit bowl.

I think I like the green cloth the best. It seems to make the dishes "pop" a bit more off the table. Both setting are very pretty.
