At times like these, a good bakery cake will suffice. This was a wonderful four layer chocolate cake that I shamelessly served to company -- at dinner and a few days later at a luncheon.
It made a nice presentation, was delicious and who minds a boughten cake when the coffee is poured from a silver pot!

Boughten!!! That's a word usage I haven't heard for a long time, though it was frequently used by myself and all those in my childhood community!!! You took me back a long ways.
I LOVE chocolate cake - - - boughten or homemade!
I am reading this and I have not eaten breakfast and I now have a craving for chocolate cake, thanks !
Love your presentation !
Kammy
p.s. did you eat all four ??
Dear Martha,
I heard a famous chef on the "other Martha's" radio program who said that when entertaining, he always buys one course of his meal, either the appetizer or dessert, already prepared. Saves time and stress.
You are simply so en vogue!
The cake looks delicious...
Yummy! I think this is what I'll have for breakfast this morning. Love chocolate layer cake! ~ Sarah

So true. You truly served it beautifully and it looks so good. What does it matter if it was bought if it tastes good and pretty to boot.

Looks wonderful. Wonder if it comes sugar-free?? :-)
Hi Martha, you are allowed to cheat sometimes you know!
