Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Reprise -- Two Visitors

This was originally posted on November 15, 2008. And I thought of my visitors yesterday as I was in the breakfast room and one of these perky birds was flitting from feeder to feeder. And I remembered my unexpected visitors. I've still not figured out where or how -- but I loved their brief visit inside Linderhof.

Please visit Chari at Happy to Design and see what everyone else is sharing again this Sunday.

We love having visitors at Linderhof whether invited or uninvited. Yesterday, two uninvited guests came for a very short visit. I was cleaning in the dining room when out of the kitchen "floated" what seemed to be a brown leaf. Upon investigation, it was a bird, a brown Carolina Wren! And then along came another! Perky creatures, these wrens. They had arrived earlier in the week to winter in Linderhof's garden. They were hanging out in the ivy by the garage -- chit, chit, chitting at one another. They flited from one plant to another and I was so afraid that they would knock themselves silly flying into a window. One flew into the kitchen and I quickly opened an unscreened kitchen window where the herbs resided.

I've never had a bird in the house like that. I understand it's supposed to bring good luck, if your superstitious. Pretty little birds though. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by to comment on my flannel sheet story. Happy Sunday!

Hi Martha...

Ohhh...how funny! I think I would have been a bit shocked to see birds flying about the kitchen! Hehe! I'm thinking that they probably caught a "wiff" of one of those fabulous meals or baking that goes on at your place...that brought them in! Too cute! So glad that you were able to let them out a window without incidence! You know...I don't think I've ever seen a brown Carolina wren...they have very long beaks, don't they!

Thanks for sharing this darling post with us today for Sunday Favorites...I enjoyed it, it brought a smile to my heart!

Have a super Sunday, my friend!
