Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

It Was a Wonderful Anniversary. . . .

Our 40th!

And it started early for we left the prairie for the ocean on November 15. To sail -- first on the Carnival Elation for four nights. Just the two of us.

To first Catalina Island -- where we rented a golf cart and toured the whole (or almost) island for four hours.
And then to Ensenada where we traveled by bus to the wine country and toured two wineries. Sampled some and brought some bottles home. Mexican wine (which is not available on the prairie) can be very good. We bought cabernet, a nabiola and a petite syrah.

And then we turned around and the next day after arriving back at San Diego, we met daughter Sarah and her Andy and boarded the Holland American Oosterdam for seven days at sea.
Actually, you can see our balconies (for we had adjoining rooms) -- see the black "windows" -- our rooms would be right above that!
Our first stop was in Mazatlan -- where we had a private tour of the city. A beautiful city -- especially the old part.

The weather was beautiful, the food was fabulous, the company divine! It was the best anniversary ever . . . and the second trip was our anniversary gift from our daughter and her Andy. How sweet is that?

But we didn't really have Thanksgiving (for that was our "date" and we dined on steak and cabernet and champagne -- not turkey) and November flew by for only two weeks of it was spent on the prairie.

It's Wednesday which means that Susan at A Southern Daydreamer is hosting Outdoor Wednesday and for a prairie girl, what better outdoor post that pictures of the sea. Please join Susan and her friends outside this Wednesday. (And I hope there isn't much snow!)

Happy 40th! In our lives, we do not meet that many people anymore that have lived in a marriage that many years. Many, many more!!

Oh Martha, what fun! Last year for our 30th anniversary, Howard and I cruised up to Canada on a Norwegian Line boat -- my first cruise, his 2nd. It was such fun, and I LOVED the balcony room! It's the only way he got me to agree to go cruising, by promising me I could hang a fishing line from my room balcony! (No, I didn't, but I'd have liked to!)

How nice of your daughter to treat you to a second cruise, too.
Cass

Claudia -- Thanks for being part of Linderhof's group. I've visited you before but did so again this morning -- loved the snow!

Cass, we did feed the gulls from our balcony! Daughter woke up our final morning with gulls flocking outside her balcony -- she knew Mom had been up and out feeding those birds.

After that room it will be hard to go back to steerage!

Wonderful celebration for your 40th!

...to answer your question you left in my comments...

MARTHA Yes, it IS still owned by the "King" family....tho descendants now with different surnames ---Richard King only had daughters. And if there is a King Ranch recipe, it probably CAME from the ranch...there are tons of cookbooks from the area. Lots and lots of staff on the ranch, including cooks!

This looks like a wonderful way to celebrate your 40th anniversary, Martha. Congratulations on your anniversary!

When they started developing Branson Landing (the new one), we were thinking we didn't like it much, because we liked the old part of town away from the hustle and bustle of the strip. But we've decided the new landing is nice and there is still some of the old part of town just up the hill.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

It WAS a wonderful anniversary, you went to some of my favorite places. I love running around Catalina in a golf cart and I hope you saw The Kiss while you were in San Diego.

Funny, my post has Ensenada in it today also, but a bit of a different type of trip. lol

Happy Anniversary!

We did see the Kiss -- what a surprise for we didn't know anything about it (we ate at the Fish Market next door) and I loved the park dedicated to Bob Hope and his shows which entertained the soldiers! Great park!

Martha, it looks like a wonderful way to celebrate your 40th anniversary. There are some celebrations that deserve having all stops pulled. In my book 40 years is one of them. I'm so glad you had such a good time. Hugs...Mary
