Blue and white is the china of choice for luncheon at Linderhof. We love our Spode blue room and believe in using things and using them often. But this is a truly blue and white luncheon.

For the tablecloth is a piece of blue and white toile fabric -- to layer over a regular white one -- an inexpensive way to add a bit of pattern or design on a table without buying lots of tablecloths. Napkins, too, are blue -- linen ones from Williams - Sonoma bought actually for use in the garden in the summer. But they seemed perfect with the blue and white toile.

Four is the perfect number when we eat in the breakfast room -- it's a small room, you see -- and in the winter, it's made even smaller with the plants that are brought in for the winter.

I don't have a favorite blue room plate -- each one is unique and each one is pretty. Any time we find them on sale, we will pick them up -- for I think they set a pretty table.

And our centerpiece has to be blue and white as well! A Spode blue and white pitcher and some blossoms in white.
It's a simple setting -- but those in the breakfast room usually are. The conversation and the food are the star -- the tablesetting just a supporting character.
It's Thursday -- the week has just flown! So join Susan at
Between Naps on the Porch to see what other table settings there are for this second Tablescape Thursday of 2010!

We have a large collection of blue and white, mainly willow pattern, some antique some new, that is always used for the breakfast table. Our napkins are blue or white Irish linen.
We also have a massive collection of old pink and white with country scenes that we use for tea parties and garden parties.
In the past we had a lot of guests, not so many now, only private house guests.
I am amazed how similar we are in our tastes, even down to the silver !!!

This is so pretty. I have always loved blue and white and I like your idea about purchasing blue and whites that don't actually match! Very pretty!
