Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

My Dressing Table

I've always loved the movies from the 30's and 40's where the leading ladies would sit at their dressing table in a lovely negligee and brush their hair.

I coveted those dressing tables full of silver and crystal.
My table is a 40's era drop leaf mahogany sofa table with a drop leaf on either side. The mirror is a Venitian mirror on an easel. Perfect for the dressing table and I like the way it reflects the bedroom chandelier.
And on top -- a Venetian mirror to corral my antique or Waterford crystal perfume and powder jars. I love the sparkle of the mirror, glass and silver!
It's also a repository of things special. Pictures of both my daughter and Husband Jim, a Lenox swan which was my going away present from my first boss, a clock which was a gift form husband Jim, and a crafted hand which holds my bracelets. With my love of blue and white, a small vase holds in the winter dried flowers.
And my dresser set -- silver mirror, hairbrush and comb and a Victorian clothes brush (another gift from husband Jim -- it was obviously part of a set and appears to have been a wedding present -- it's engraved with initials and a date). The mirror was my Aunt Pearl's which was a gift from her Aunt Mallie and which has a lovely inscription -- "It would have been platinum but your mother would have said I was spoiling you -- Aunt Mallie".

It's Tuesday which means that it's time for Tabletop Tuesday. Please join Marty at A Stroll Thru Life to see what is on top of everyone's table this Tuesday!

Your dressing table really does bring on thoughts of heroines in maribou-trimmed gowns! What a lovely place to start and finish the day.

Thank you Martha. I have been trying to peek at your dressing room through photos of your master bedroom. I love those movies - Norma Shearer, Myrna Loy, Jean Harlowe....and I have a special memory of my grandmother's dressing table. I would love to have it in my possession now but alas, all things, apparently are fleeting. Seize the day!! Your table is beautiful as are you!

Martha I so enjoyed browsing around your dressing table today.
I have a perfume sprayer with pump almost exactly the same as yours and the Victorian silver backed clothes brush is practically identical to one I inherited from my Nana. Oh my!
