Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Flamingos -- our Summer Visitors

As the swallows return to Capistrano in the Spring, so do the flamingos return to our little town on the prairie in the summer.

It's not a large flock but it does stay within the city limits as it moves from house to house. Usually staying a week before they move on.
Some of them have been around for a while and actually we have three different broods -- but they are all pink and they are all flamingos! And they all like to flock!

The reason that the flamingos return to our town every summer . . . .it's a funraiser sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division. It makes a little money but the smile that flock of flamingos bring to our visitors is why we do it.

Other towns may have their cows on their horses -- we have the flamingos!

It's Pink Saturday -- and what is pinker than a flamingo? -- so please join Beverly at How Sweet the Sound and have a great Pink Saturday!

I've heard of these fund raising birds! One youth group has flamingo insurance, too. Looks good when there's a large flock! Enjoy them before they move on! ♥♫

You know, they look pretty and fun all in a flock like that!

Our church "Relay for Life" team did a fundraiser like that this spring - - - when the flock landed in our yard, it made Fisherhubby upset. I just wrote a check and turned it and the flock back over to the "big bird!"

This is wonderful!!!! I love flamingos, they are my favorites. I have many flamingo items, but I've never had a whole flock on my lawn...what fun!

There is a flock of flamingos in our town for a fun-raiser too. During their "off season," their keeper puts them out in different patterns in the front yard each week or so.

BTW, it isn't MY lawn that they're sitting on (although at some point this summer they will spend a week at Linderhof) -- I'm the Chair of the Tourism Committee and we put out the flamingos.

The pink flamingos are classic, it's really cool - they gave a burst of color don't they?

I love this. What fun and very colorful too. We used to live in a neighborhood where if someone went away on a trip, when they returned, their yard would be full of pink flamingos. I love your idea. Happy Pink Saturday, Char
