Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

The Table in the Dining Room

Several years back, I bought a great iron table from a local shop and within a month at an antique shop in another town, I found a piece of marble for $35 that fitted the iron base perfectly.

I decided on the space in front of the dining room windows as the perfect place for the table -- with the marble top, it makes a great place to do beverage service -- you don't need to worry about sweaty pitchers or glasses and in between party times, it is just a great piece!

We love mirrors at Linderhof and this one in front of the windows makes the dining room seem larger. The lamp in front of the mirror reflects the light and at night it seems as if the whole dining room is alight!

The silver trays are not there for height but rather for storage -- who says storage has to be behind closed doors? It's the perfect place for them and they do corral the lamp and those odd pieces when not used for serving beverages or a big tray of cheeses or dozens of little cakes or tarts.

The candleabra are in their summer home -- in the winter, on either side of the mirror are the big pots of agapanthus. It's the perfect place for them and they loved it last winter -- and I do enjoy bits of green in the house in winter.

It's a simple table and is perfect, I think, in front of the windows in the dining room. Other than the plants being changed to candles, there is little that I change about this arrangement. It seems . . . perfect!

It's Tuesday which means that it's time to join Marty at A Stroll Thru Life to see other tabletops this Tuesday.

Oh I do agree. It looks perfect and what a fabulous piece to have to use as a sideboard service area. Love the ironwork and the marble is just fantastic. I would never have thought to place a mirror leaning like that, but what a great idea. We have tons of windows, but sometime a room seems dark anyway. That is perfect with the lamps. Great vignette. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

You have a great eye for design! I love the beautiful pieces that grace this magnificent piece of marble.

I agree, mirrors give such light, and drama to any room.
Such an inspiring post!
