Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Papa Mirror, Mama Mirror and Baby Mirror . . .

I've been wanting a different mirror for over the dining room mantle for a long long time.

Although ornate looking, it was an inexpensive mirror from Hobby Lobby (which replaced a picture that we used to have there) but the mirror wasn't old! -- Papa Mirror

I tried an existing mirror that I had (which wasn't old either -- a Tuesday Morning purchase and so heavy!) but without a frame of sorts, it didn't look right (although I did like the look of the chandelier reflected in the mirror) plus it was really a tad too tall! - Mama Mirror

But then I found this wonderful black and gilt framed mirror and although it looks old, I'm not sure how old it really is . . . but I do like it -- it reflects the chandelier (but not as much as "Mama Mirror") and it has some heft to it's frame (but not as much as "Papa Mirror") . . .
so I think this mirror is just right!!! (which would make it Baby Mirror!)

It is amazing what you can find in our little town on the prairie . . . . and I think it fits in perfectly with the old Asian ginger jars and those wonderful candleholders (which look so good at night when they are lit). The centerpiece is a tea caddy which isn't old either . . . on my want list is an old one (which I did find last year in Stillwater, Minnesota and didn't buy! A big mistake!) and which I am sure that one day I will find the perfect old tea caddy to take it's place.

My transformation is small but I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday.

Lovely mirrors, but I agree the last one is the best over the FP. Dropping by from Met Monday. Hope you'll check out the chairs I had recovered when you have a few minutes.

The mirror is just right but those other two are very nice. Hope you will find another place for them.

Isn't it a great feeling when you find the perfect piece for your home? Baby mirror is a good choice - love that it reflects a little bit of your chandelier - sort of a sneak peek at what else there is to see :-)
