Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Another Herbal Luncheon

The end of July I did another Cooking With Herbs class which started, actually, in the herb garden at Linderhof. Often, when I teach cooking classes, I give away a Luncheon at Linderhof and by way of drawing, there is one lucky winner.

This winner celebrated her birthday on August 6 and so decided that August 5, celebrating her birthday would be the perfect time for a Luncheon at Linderhof.

And so they came . . .

And the table. . .

in the breakfast room set up for the luncheon . . .

With some wonderful hand painted floral trays which are perfect placemats for a garden luncheon -- given to me by a dear dear friend.

Yellow mums in a crystal vase and one of the two birds which are on either side of the centerpiece. I always love a "Blossoms and Birds" theme for a luncheon!

My silver bird place card holders -- another gift from a dear friend.

And, of course, each place had a menu -- with a birthday cake because we were celebrating a birthday -- not just any birthday but one of those "special" birthdays!

And the menu -- an herbal menu since it was a prize from an herbal cooking class . . .

To start . . .

Chilled Corn Soup with Basil

Tomato and Blue Cheese Tart, tossed green salad with Linderhof vinaigrette and a Sister Shubert Roll

A caramel rosemary cake

I love herbal desserts!

It's Thursday and I'm joining Susan at Between Naps On the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

Martha, I was so excited to see you using those trays. As you know I bought a set for myself as well but have not used them. I am planning a luncheon soon and plan to use them. A summer luncheon to catch up on everyone's travels. I have bought some clear glass plates and salad bowls to sit on those trays. They are a reproduction of a depression glass set with the hobnails on the outer primeter. When I have this luncheon I will have to post it. BTW, the menu sounded fabulous. You will have to share with me how you print the more narrow menu cards. Thats something I haven't done but I can probably find them at Office Depot?

Basil caramel cake? I would never have thought to pair those 2 flavors. I will have to try it. Very pretty setting for the special birthday. The floral trays are a great touch!
