Last week some Nevada friends came for lunch. A special lunch. They're gardeners like me and so I deemed the luncheon needed to be an Herbal Luncheon -- both in table theme and in food!
The table set for lunch -- an herbal centerpiece with added birds and floral china decorated, too, with a bird!
The china, my Wedgwood Cuckoo -- full of colorful flowers and a bird. It was a wine kind of luncheon and some vintage wineglasses are placed above the knife. And, I decided, to use vintage glasses for water as well. I've had both forvever but haven't used them in "forever"!
For each guest, a lavender basket -- fresh lavender woven into a basket and tied with a lavender ribbon. As always at Linderhof, a menu for each guest. The napkins, my Irish linen ones in silver napkin rings, of course!

The centerpiece, six assorted herb plants in a moss lined wire basket bookmarked with a pair of china birds.
The herb plants in small pots were for my guests to take home.
I always love the table just before the guest arrive -- all expectant with everything in it's place and good smells wafting in from the kitchen.
It was a Herbal Luncheon so I felt that the food should be as herbal as the decorations.
And the menu?
Cups of chilled creamy potato soup with rosemary.
Slices of chicken corn basil quiche served with a salad of mixed baby greens with vinaigrette, a warm roll and butter with sea salt and chives.
For dessert, a lavendar lemon cake with a blueberry lavender sauce. Individual cakes for each guest.
A sad face didn't work with these ladies so Oliver thought he would show them by turning his back on the group. You won't feed me -- there I won't eat!!!!
It was a lovely afternoon and although it was rather warm, we did go out into the garden (but not for long) for gardeners whether in overhalls and crocs or skirts and heels will tromp around a garden!
It's Thursday and I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. See what other summer tablescapes there are this Thursday by joining Susan.

Gorgeous tablescape! I love your Wedwood china, every piece is a beauty. The herbs centerpiece is perfect for this table and the menu is fabulous! Wish I was there. Lovely. FABBY
Your guests must have been thrilled - I know that I'd have been!
Perfect elements for your gardening friends. Everything looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing your marvelous design. Cherry Kay
How fun! I think I would have gone to sit with Oliver though. Your china is beautiful.
Martha,
How lovely! I wondered when you were working with fresh lavendar earlier this season how you would use all of it. I adore the lavendar baskets! Your tablescape is elegant, dear. The menu so inviting. Oliver entertaining...too cute! What an enjoyable time you all had, indeed.
Fondly,
Pat
Martha you do the most wonderful teas and luncheons. This is beautiful!
Lovely luncheon! I'm focusing on pouty Oliver! Our Oliver can put on the most pathetic face when diners are around. He could pose for a mistreated dog ad!! He is actually treated very well. Right now he is lounging on his day bed in front of the ac vent!
Best,
Bonnie
Your table was lovely and food looked so delicious. I am a lavender lover and was so taken with the baskets. Would you please tell where you got the baskets and how you made them? Thank you.
Gwen -- email me (martha@linesfromlinderhof.com) and I will tell you about the baskets! They're fun!

Bonnie -- with our 100 plus days -- Oliver lies in front of the fan -- not his usual place to lay either -- so I know that it must feel good for him. And he seems so contented in front of that fan!
A visit to Linderhof is obviously a special treat and full of gracious beauty and tasty food, fresh flowers, and a friendly dog! Although my lifestyle is fairly simple, you make me want to run out and buy lots of beautiful china, linens, silver, crystal and vases so I can set a table as gorgeous as yours! It's always a lovely experience to visit your blog.
Martha, this is just exquisite!!! You have the most beautiful taste, always so refined and comfortable and pretty, never ever overdone! Your guests must have been charmed. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Delightful! I just love the theme. The food looks delicious. Rosemary is my favorite and sounds delicious with that soup. Beautiful table.
It must be a truly marvelous thing to be a guest in your home. It looks wonderful.

This looks like a delightful herbal luncheon. I can imagine those wonderful smells too.
Hi Martha...
I'm just doing a little catching up over here at your place and wanted to leave you a note about your Herbal Luncheon! My friend, your table is beautiful! Mmmm...I do believe that I caught a few wiffs of the herbs that you used for your table's centerpiece too! Lovely!!!
Your place settings...beautiful!!! I love this Wedgewood china pattern...all the different colored flowers are so pretty! But...I am sooo impressed by your little lavender baskets! They are soooo neat! Have you featured a tutorial on how to make them? Just curious. They looked so beautiful laying across your silver napkin rings and beautiful napkins! Love that!!! I also like that you print a menu for each guest. I will have to remember that sweet addition the next time I have guests! Thank you so much for sharing your lovely table with us...this was such a treat, my friend! Ohhh...and your menu...the food...looked scrumptious!!!
Warmest summery wishes,

So beautiful!!! That chicken corn basil quiche sounds and looks wonderful! I will have to Google a recipe for it and give it a try. I think it is so nice that you put on such a thoughtful luncheon for your visiting friends. I am sure they will not soon forget what a lovely time they all had!
Your herbal tablescape is lovely. That Wedgwood Cuckoo china is gorgeous. I love how you have served the chilled potato soup in that sweet teacup. Your menu sounds (and looks) so delicious. You always have the best luncheons!
