Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Snow, Valentine's Preparations and Soup!

Winter on the prairie has been "less than winter" -- temperatures in January were in the 60s most days.    We thought the winter of 2011/2012 would be one of those rare "non-winter" winters!

But cold temperatures last weekend made us realize that it was indeed winter.    And then this morning, we awoke to . . .

The first real snow of the winter.     There have been some flurries but no accumulation.     Winter is supposed to be snowy and so, with no "outside of the house" plans, I welcomed the snowy day.

For tomorrow, is Valentine's and I've company coming!

I spent the day getting ready . . .

Making strawberry fudge hearts

For favors.     And baking cookies for the table and to be used as place cards!

And making a pot of

Hearty Beef and Barley Soup.    Which made the perfect supper for a snowy night.

And great lunches for the rest of the week.

Happy Valentine's Day, dear friend! Those fudge hearts are adorable!!! Appears that we had the same amount of snow here on our side of the Prairie, as well. Made for a s l o w and slick commute to the office this morning. Enjoy your Valentine's Day Luncheon! You continually bless my heart!

You put your snow day to great use - what industry! I'd have curled up by the fire with a good book - and the wish for someone to make me a pot of soup like that!

Thank You for stopping by my blog and leaving me a sweet comment!

I am planning on making those pink fudge hearts tomorrow! I'm excited to see how they taste.

Your soup looks so warm and comforting for a cold winters evening.

Happy Valentines Day to you and yours.

Strawberry fudge sounds delightful and perfect for Valentine's day. I like the picture of your house in the snow. We too, here in the south, have had a mild winter--if you can call it winter--but we are enjoying a good cold spell right now. I would like to be at your luncheon table today! I have enjoyed your blog for many years!
