Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Garden Flowers

From the very first bulb bloom in the spring through the very last mum in the fall, flowers are always on the breakfast room table.    This year, everything is blooming way ahead of schedule.    We had bulbs in early March, the japonica, the lilacs came and went all too quickly, and now, it is April and the roses -- the roses  are blooming!   It's April!!!!    They'll be gone by their normal May blooming time!!!!

White knockouts, red knockouts and pink William Baffin . . .

Fill a blue and white pitcher on the breakfast room table.      They make me smile.

You have some beauties there. Everything is ahead. Irises are now stealing the show here.

How lovely to be able to have flowers in the house - it's something I can rarely do as they affect my husband's asthma. My mum always had flowers in the house and even after all these years it's something I miss.

It was earlier here too with flowering, though not as early as you are. And tomorrow they forecast snow.

Did someone say snow?!

I didn't know they had white knockouts...just what I need in the front of the house. Thanks!

Oh, yes and yellow ones as well -- and the new ones have fragrance -- something the old ones lacked! And now they have doubles as well.
