Easter dawned bright as we left very early for church for we had breakfast there. Not a provided breakfast but what I call an "assigned" potluck (there are categories and you sign up in a category - i.e. breakfast casserole -- and bring your favorite breakfast casserole recipe). I signed up for both a casserole and a bread.
My breakfast casserole of choice was Grits Gruyere and my bread was My English Kitchen's carrot/poppyseed tea cake. The bread was made, cut, wrapped along with a container of soft cream cheese. The grits were made but needed to be baked and so while I dressed, the grits baked.
It was a great breakfast. Lots of fresh fruit, a plethora of breakfast casseroles and many breads from cinnamon rolls and sticky buns to tea breads like mine.
We ate and visited and had just one more cup of coffee before we were reminded that it was time for church.
After church, we grazed on the leftovers of breakfast (and who can resist just one more cinnamon roll?) and had more coffee.
Easter dinner this year, it was just the two of us. But Easter Dinner
deserves the dining room. And so I sat the table for a oneish Easter Dinner in the dining room.
The centerpiece was a silver basket filled with the honeysuckle that clambers over the front arbor.
My grandmother's china and Jim's grandmother's cutlery set the table. Old wine glasses that we got "somewhere" seem perfect.
Instead of one of us at each end, we sat across from one another on one end of the table. The Easter Egg tree anchors the other end of the table. A square lace tea cloth is the perfect tablecloth for a dinner for two.
The dinner . . .
A rack of lamb. We adore lamb, ham would have been too much for the two of us as would a lamb leg. The rack, however, makes a perfect "for two" serving.
We started with . . .
Asparagus with Hollandaise sauce. Not as a side dish but as a separate course -- a "starter". It was the perfect starter!
And the star . .
Two double chops each with roasted potatoes. A sprig of garden rosemary is the perfect garnish.
And because it was just the two of us, we decided to end the meal in a quite European way
With greens and a wedge of Maytag blue. Another glass of wine to wash down cheese and salad.
And then it was time for a nap!!!!
In early afternoon, after a nap,
I had one of the leftover slices of carrot/poppyseed bread with a cup of tea. The bread made the perfect Easter tea.
It's Thursday and I'm joining Susan at Between Naps On the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Easter tables abounded last week -- will mine be the only one this week?

My husband would have enjoyed a seat at your table with his love for lamb. He had it often during his stays in England but I've never made it (though my mom did in my childhood, quite regularly). I'm surprised you had grits for breakfast, I thought that was purely southern!
I'm not a meat eater but those roasted potatoes got my attention. And the asparagus...oh my! I love that dining-room setting in your home, so inviting. I'm glad you had a lovely Easter dinner for two. Hugs, Deb

We're in "Southern" Kansas!!! LOL!!! Actually, because we ARE in SE Kansas and are so close to Missouri, a lot of Southern foods are eaten here -- biscuits and gravy certainly is a breakfast favorite here!
I'd say your Easter was perfect! A nice start with friends and good food at church, a lovely lamb lunch and an afternoon treat as well.
The table setting for two is very elegant, as it should be.
Best,
Bonnie
Your Easter lamb was "picture perfect" and made my mouth water!
Wonderful post!
The lamb and roast potatoes look mouth-watering!
I don't know about the grits. When we lived in Oklahoma I tried them many times but found them tasteless. I don't think anyone made them au Gratin, as you have....then I might have enjoyed them.
Pondy -- It is a good recipe and we've had grits haters take seconds of this dish!
Sounds like you had a lovely peace filled Easter day. Love the dining table arrangement for two. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
I love the idea of the potluck breakfast, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing it for breakfast! You cozy table looks perfect for the two of you. It's so special to use family heirlooms on these special days.
Beautiful table... for two! I never cooked lamb before,... it rather intimidates me....AHAHHAHA but that sure does look tasty!
Beautiful table set for two...I so love the silver vase!
The Easter meal looks delicious!!!
I love lamb and your beautiful tablescape. Loving those roated potatoes too, yummy! I like grits for breakfast, here, in this part of the world are a favorite too. Enjoy your weekend.

Oh Martha your dinner looks divine. I am a sucker for asparagus and Hollandaise sauce. Beautiful presentation!
The tablecloth is gorgeous as well.
Sounds like breakfast was wonderful too...and I agree...no one can resist one more cinnamon roll! I can't!
Looks delicious! We served lamb for Easter too. The asparagus looks so pretty. ~ Sarah
