Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Advent Two

December 9
is the Second Sunday of Advent
The Advent Wreath adorns the table in the breakfast room
And on Sunday, it is the candlelight we dine by

The Christmas china -- used all during Advent

 Red and green and evergreen

Dinner a traditional Sunday Roast
Roast beef, horseradish sauce, potatoes and carrots

The second Sunday in Advent
The second candle is lit

This is the Bethlehem Candle
(to remind us that even in the most humble places can come the most exciting event in human history)

Dearest God, as we light this Bethlehem candle, the symbol of humble beginnings, we thank you most gracious God that you chose not to stay distant, but to come and be one of us -- to share our joys and sorrows, and to ransom us from evil.

Amen

What a beautiful tradition. Love your table and Advent wreath.

I spent all of yesterday baking for holiday gifts. Wish I had done what you did. Definitely next year!

Martha,
Your tartan plaid Christmas wear looks very festive and Traditional with the evergreens around the Advent Candle!!! Hm~m~m. . .I just put a pot roast in the oven for this "very cold day on the Prairie"! Comfort food and warms the kitchen nicely!
Fondly,
Pat
