Spring and brunches seem to go together.
Easter Brunch
Mother's Day Brunch
To celebrate Mother's Day this year
I invited two friends and their daughter's
to join me for brunch
A Spring brunch!
The table in the dining room set with a lace cloth
A crystal vase filled with Farmer's market lilacs
And on each side a wee lead bird
My Aynsley "old" Pembroke plates
Jim's grandmother's silver
Linen napkins in silver rings
The menu:
Eggs Benedict Casserole
Roasted Asparagus
A Berry Good Fruit Salad with Tequila Lime Syrup
French Puff Muffins, Cheese Biscuits, Whole Wheat Toast
Chive Butter, Blueberry Butter, Strawberry Jam
Strawberries and Cream Cake
Pots of Freshly Brewed Coffee
The cake was the star of the meal:
Anything with strawberries and whipped cream has to be good!
A one layer cake, halved, spread with strawberry jam, layered with strawberries, then whipped cream, topped with the second layer
And the whole thing covered in whipped cream.
Garnished with a fanned strawberry.
We talked, we visited, we had a grand time.
It would have been perfect, however, if Daughter Sarah could have joined us!
It's Thursday and I'm joining Susan at Between Naps On the Porch for Tablescape Thursday and Cuisine Kathleen for Let's Dish.

That cake looks simply splendid and the table wonderful - YOU have done it again!!!!
What a pretty table. How long do your cut lilacs last? I've been hesitant to purchase them because of the bad reviews! Love the china and the old silver. So much charm. I am sure with that menu (I don't know why my invite didn't get here? ;-)... I am sure everyone had a fabulous time and went away well satiated with the delectable menu and the warmth of good friendships. xo marlis
Such a beautiful table..and I agree anything with strawberries and whipped cream is a hit...
Love, Mona
I have always adored "Pembroke" plates - jealous that you own them!! The cake looks so good - blogging is going to add 20 pounds to my short self - lol!!

Oh that cake!!!! It really looks delicious! And I'm intrigued by the French puffs on your menu. Sounds like you had a wonderful brunch. Our lilacs haven't bloomed yet, but hopefully next week. I love the smell of lilacs in the house! Linda
I love the Pembroke plates. And that cake...oh my goodness. I have been craving strawberry shortcake for days and this is killin' me. I think it's time to make one.
Martha - I have not been getting updates of your posts lately. ?

Why, oh why did I have to see that luscious cake?!??!!! We just came from having dinner, and I skipped dessert thinking I could make it through the night without. But, NO! You have to tempt me!!!!! :-) Gosh, that looks good! Really light as a cloud!
