Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Red, In White and Blue

The roses are waning
Their blossoms are fewer
And petals litter the ground

But this week there was still enough

Of the knock-out roses

To fill the old blue and white pitcher on the dining room table

And the Blaze Rose that I planted 25 years ago
and creeps up the side of the house

Provided enough blossoms
to fill a blue and white pitcher
in the breakfast room.

Before all the petals are gone, a lot of blooms will be picked
to be made into this year's potpourri.
There is nothing like a hint of rose fragrance inside the house
especially in winter.

There is something about red roses in blue and white pitchers.
