Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Lavender Bottles

It's lavender time on the prairie
The lavender bed is in full bloom

And the lavender has been full of bees
Somewhere, there is a hive full of lavender honey!
(Oh, to follow the bees to see where that hive is!)

But I've been busy too
with the lavender

Making lavender bottles
to scent linens and lingerie
to give as gifts

An old pitcher on the breakfast room sideboard
Is a good repository for the bottles I've been collecting

As is an old platter on the breakfast room table.

I had the church ladies over a couple of weeks ago
for a "show and learn" and they all took home at least
one bottle!

I posted about that evening

Weaving my bottles is a rite of summer.

Love your lavender bottles. My lavender is not blooming yet. One variety I planted this year I had to pull up, it was looking awful and obviously not appropriate for our area. I could smell your lavender bottles as I saw your pics, pure heaven.

My lavender is all in bloom now - I'll have to figure out how to make those lovely bottles!

Hi Martha,

I love your lavender bottles! I have three of these that I made in an herb class about ten summers ago. I've always thought they were so pretty and special! My MIL usually has lavender in her garden; I may have to see about making some more bottles (if I can remember how).

Hubby and I have been watching the Tour de France, as we do every year, and last night they were in Provence and rode by several of the large, commercial lavender fields -- so beautiful.

Have a wonderful day, Martha!
