Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Lavender . . . In Cookies and In Bottles . . . A Craft Project In the Garden

It's Lavender time at Linderhof
The herb bed is abloom!
(And bees are busily buzzing around -- somewhere there is lavender honey!)

And last week was the prime time for the lavender harvest.
We dry a lot to use in cooking throughout the year

But we also make "bottles"

Our church ladies have a Ladies Learning Program
Whereby, we learn a new craft.
The church ladies expressed an interest in making lavender bottles.

The lavender was ready, the date was set,
Everyone was asked to bring some ribbon

I brought my collection of scissors for the ladies to use . .
And my own spools of purple ribbon
And an example of a completed bottle.

It was the week where the outdoor temperature was mild --
perfect for bottle weaving in the garden.

But no one can come to Linderhof and not have a nosh

Lavender and lemon cutout cookies, frosted with a lavender scented frosting
and sprinkled with lavender colored sugar

Not lavender tea but lemon verbena tea -- lemon and lavender are perfect together!
(And there was, after all, lemon in the cookies)

We wove bottles, we munched on cookies, we visited and we sipped icy lemon tea.
It was a great get together -- each lady took home at least one bottle!

It's Wednesday and I'm joining Susan at A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday.

I have lemon verbena growing in a pot. Amazing it came back from last year. Wonderful in tea.

I see Dolly is in control of her yard now. Who would have thought!

Lovely lavendar bottles, dear friend!!! I saw these at the Herb Expo, but haven't made one!!!
New lavendar in the Herb Garden and not much harvest this year, hopefully I'll have a better harvest next year and give these a try!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!

Great! I love lavender and ordered lavender wands from Etsy as my yard is too shady to grow it!
