Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Oh we have been enjoying tomatoes from our garden and sharing with all the neighbors too. I love them, they taste so much better than the ones in the grocery.

What piece of art in the history of the world is as beautiful as tomatoes in the sunlight?

I'm about to have a tomato sandwich on 12 grain bread---the slices which were left from our cookout last night, for when they first come in, I cannot bear to waste a bite.

I used to say back when we had such a huge garden, "Won't you be glad when we have tomatoes to WASTE?" Not literally, of course, but it was easier to slide those last two forlorn bits into the compost bucket if there were dozens more on windowsills.

Yes, tomatoes ripening in the window and the doorbell ringing from neighbors dropping by bags of tomatoes out of the garden. Yes, it's really summer!
