Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

May Day Baskets

It's the First of May,
a day traditionally celebrated

by leaving a basket of flowers on a door knob
ringing the door bell
And running and hiding before it's answered.

A thrill of childhood that I fondly remember
this first day of May.

I may make some coconut kisses that Mother often made
for May Day
colorful confections of coconut and egg white
A pretty Spring cookie!

A lovely custom. I did it and so did my children....But I'm more excited about the doorknob which is like the ones in my grandparent's house!

Martha,
I had the 'best intentions' . . .but then "real life" took my time. I am making written plans "now" for next year's May Day on our cul~de~sac!!! Thank you for the sweet inspiration, dear friend!!!
Fondly,
Pat

I treasure my memories of May Day celebrated in a German village where we made our home when our son was tiny. What a lovely surprise it was to find a cone of flowers on the door!
