Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Company Desserts

We had company the last week of August
LOTS
of company!

And each company meal called for a company dessert!

Tuesday
Lemon Chess Pie
(Because our guest of honor loves anything lemon!)

 Wednesday
Peach Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream
(Because it's summer, the peaches are ripe and everyone loves peach cobbler!   Served in individual gratin dishes -- each guest had their own!)

Thursday
A Petit Four
(From Andre's Kansas City -- where I lunched with a friend before a needlepoint class)

Friday
Peach Cobbler
(There is no such thing as too much of a good thing!    Served differently -- made one big cobbler and served it in bowls -- topped with that melting vanilla ice cream)

The following Wednesday
Tomato Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
(A dinner for some dear friends who were visiting from out of town)

Thursday Lunch
Tomato Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
(Yes, the same cake -- bake once serve twice!   Just as good the next day -- perhaps even better because spice cakes tend to develop more flavor when they sit!)

It's been a fun and busy week.
The good news is that the house was kept clean
Since "company" was always coming over!

But my idea of a perfect day is to clean house in the morning, cook in the afternoon and have company for dinner!

So you might say I had the perfect week!

Oh my goodness look at those wonderful desserts! I have to tell you I did quite a bit of antiquing this summer and every time I see a piece of blue and white English Indies - I think of you!

You've seen blue and white English Indies? I thought it was a rare bird! I see very little which is why I pounced on the gravy boat in August -- you NEVER see that!

Would you please share your lemon chess pie recipe?

Thank you.

I had that same little forget-me-not petit four last week! Our daughter was in town and Andre's is one of her favorite places to eat.
