Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

All Saints Day

It's All Saints Day

Saint Martha

Martha is the patron saint of servants and cooks.

The children at our Catholic School dress up as their favorite saint on
All Saints Day
And give a report on that saint.

If I was a child in the Catholic School
guess which saint I would chose?

But we're Lutheran
And our saints run to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul

It's fascinating to me that Martha is the patron saint of
"cooks"

I couldn't have a better name
nor a better patron saint!

When I was a girl in Catholic school, I picked Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland, as my favorite. I read about how she would walk to the gates and give all the poor people food. I thought that would be a pretty good job to be a queen and share food. I still think that would be a pretty good gig!

Saint are fascinating. Now I know more about St. Martha. Hope you had as nice of a November day as we did.

Fitting to say the least, Martha! I would say that you are a good custodian of your name.
