Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

A Saint Nicholas Tea

December 6 is Saint Nicholas Day
A day that's always been special to me
for, you see, I was born on Saint Nicholas Eve
(the night in which Saint Nicholas visits children and leaves
them a toy (or a lump of coal if they've been bad)

I've always felt special because of that.

And always, we celebrate St. Nicholas Day at Linderhof
With Dundee cake for tea
Dundee cake makes a great tea nosh in December!
(it's sort of like a fruit cake -- a cake filled with raisins and citron and nuts and candied cherries)

Friends Shirley Ann and Frieda
came over from Nevada for the Homes tour
and after, we took tea in the breakfast room

A special St. Nicholas Tea

You can always tell a special tea for we use the silver pot!

And serve the Dundee cake in the silver bread tray

It's Sunday so the Advent candles are lit
It's the second Sunday so there are two lit candles

And, of course, the Christmas china is used.

The tablecloth is new -- from our trip to Door County in September
It's Swedish and I love the snowflakes and the red
It's a perfect cloth for the breakfast room table!

I like holidays even when they come in the midst of the holiday season.

We sipped and nibbled and chatted
until it was time for them to go home!

It was a fun day and it's always fun to share
St. Nicholas Day with friends.

It's Tuesday and I'm sharing my St. Nicholas Tea with Sandi at Rose Chintz Cottage
