"Let us then, in the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains
and garland the passionless mounds above them
with choicest flowers of springtime;
let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor;
let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to
aid and assist those whom they have left among us
a sacred charge upon the Nation's gratitude

Statue at Boalsburg, Pa., commemorating the town as the first to celebrate Decoration Day. |
We are fortunate . . . for, in our family, all of those who fought, in every war
from The Revolutionary War through Viet Nam came home.
Today, we honor those who did not!

Beautiful tribute. Those statues are so poignant.
I never knew about this town. Thank you! I had ancestors in every way through WWII and they came back. (Well, no one was in the Spanish American War.) We are fortunate.
Beautiful Tribute!
I hope that soon there will be more such posts.
