Linderhof

Gardening, Cooking and Decorating on the Prairie of Kansas

Welcome to Linderhof, our 1920's home on the prairie, where there's usually something in the oven, flowers in the garden for tabletops and herbs in the garden for cooking. Where, when company comes, the teapot is always on and there are cookies and cakes to share in the larder.

Fall Back

I didn't grow up with Daylight Savings Time --
it happened after I graduated from high school.

I've never been a fan --
I hate to lose that hour of sleep in the spring
And in the fall, I'm still on summer time.

But what I hate the most is
changing
the clocks.

Except for the one on the Smart TVs and the cell phone,
all the other clocks at Linderhof
have to be changed by hand!

In the spring it's easy, you just move them ahead one hour.
but in the fall . . . you can't move them back!

Each clock is a challenge

And on that first Sunday in November,
I'm sorry that I have a clock fetish
And we have way too many clocks!

The one on my bedside table.   It's a little oak clock

that I found here in Fort Scott --

I love it and it's a perfect bedside clock.

It's a battery so I just take the battery out for an hour

(or more if I forget and then I have to move the hands ahead)

My dressing table clock is a small Waterford clock and it's a battery one too.

So I take the battery out of that one as well.

The mantle clock that was a wedding present to my parents.
It's my most beloved clock
And it has Westminster chimes
(too loud chimes if you ask the grands -- it keeps them awake)
You stop the movement for an hour (you hope) and then restart
And viola -- it's the correct time!

Another wooden clock.   Another battery clock.
Found in a little shop in Minnesota when we were visiting our daughter and her family.

The living room clock.   You stop the pendulum and hopefully remember to start it again in an hour!

ning

The clock that's a sham.
It's not a grandfather clock at all!
It's not old -- it's from Bombay Company!
And since it is -- it's a battery so you just take it out and put it back in after an hour.

The clock on the dining room mantle.
You stop it and then restart it in an hour.

The clocks are all "on time" now and will be until next March.

And on time change Sunday, I always wish that we never switched to Daylight Savings Time!

Love your posts. Was so happy to see a new one from you. I wish they could keep time the same all year; no Spring Forward, no Fall Back. Your Clocks are wonderful.

I am so sad to read that Martha Scott from Lines from Linderhof; has passed away. Her blog was truly my number 1 favorite. She had such style and class. Their home was beautiful. I always looked forward to seeing her next post. God Bless her and the family.

Let me share this on your lovely blog, A neighbor of mine developed dementia & diabetes, then her husband died, no children or family nearby. I am thankful our closest neighbor, an African American woman, introduced Dr Itua Herbal Medicine, A traditional herbal doctor in which we purchased a herbal product for her through his Dr Itua online herbs store. A former social worker stepped in and led the way to place the widow in a care facility. We visit nearly every week until she finishes drinking Dr Itua herbal medicines, if possible. The two of us take simple games, puzzles, and matching cards to do with her, staying about 2 hours. Jenga, Trouble, puzzles 100pcs or less, 20 cards to match (total-not 40!). The fishing game where the fish open and shut their mouths as they go around is lots of fun! We sit and chat with her until she gets well again, then we pull out a game and the three of us laugh together as we play. We take a variety of things to do so that we won't get bored. She finished Dr Itua herbal medicines and she's fine now and doing better with the help of Dr Itua herbal medicines, Dr Itua cures different illnesses with his herbal medicines. Anyone having a sick person should reach Dr Itua email drituaherbalcenter@gmail.com Dr Itua Cure Alzheimer's,Cancer,Parkinson,Hiv,Herpes,Hpv,Kidney disease,Diabetes,Hepatitis, We hug and hold hands a lot. Having two of us go together really helps. But I can go alone, my neighbor cannot, as she saw so much of this during her years as a social worker. I hope this specific list helps others in this situation.
Thanks.
